Rex taming at a glance

The Rex is a knockout tame: a level 150 has 15,407 torpor to fill, roughly 70 Tranq Darts or 100 Tranq Arrows from a crossbow at 100% weapon damage. Once down, Exceptional Kibble x9 finishes the tame in about 30m at 99.6% effectiveness.

Immobilized by: Chain Bola, Large Bear Trap.

Figures assume a level 150 wild on Official (Standard) settings. The calculator above recalculates for any level and server rates.

How to tame a Rex

A wild Rex hits hard and soaks a lot of tranquilizers, so treat this as a trap tame. The standard build is a pen of four stone gateways placed in a line or square with a large bear trap in the middle: aggro the Rex, run it through the gates on a fast mount, snap the trap, then seal the gateway behind you. From there you can fire darts safely from outside the pen.

If you tame in the open instead, use high ground the Rex cannot path to and keep backing away between shots. Its torpor drains slowly for its size, but a level 150 still wants a healthy stock of narcotics, and other predators will happily eat your unconscious tame, so clear the area and consider standing guard until it wakes as yours.

The Rex is the classic endgame army creature: a bred and imprinted squad of 19 rexes plus a Yutyrannus is still the default answer to most boss arenas. Outside boss work it is a superb meat and hide farmer and an intimidating patrol mount for open-world PvP.
