Argentavis taming at a glance
The Argentavis is a knockout tame: a level 150 has 5,964 torpor to fill, roughly 27 Tranq Darts or 39 Tranq Arrows from a crossbow at 100% weapon damage. Once down, Superior Kibble x6 finishes the tame in about 23m at 99.6% effectiveness.
Immobilized by: Chain Bola, Bear Trap, Large Bear Trap, Plant Species Y.
Figures assume a level 150 wild on Official (Standard) settings. The calculator above recalculates for any level and server rates.
How to tame an Argentavis
The Argy is the mid-game priority tame, and the easiest method is a bear trap on open ground. Aggro the bird with a ranged hit, stand near the trap, and side-step as it dives so it lands in the trap. Once pinned, put tranq darts into it at your leisure. Without a trap you can still kite it on foot and shoot as it swoops, but expect a chase every time it disengages.
Wild Argents heal by eating corpses, so drag or harvest nearby bodies before you start, and clear the sky: two argies aggro together often. Once it is down, feed kibble or prime meat and keep a spyglass on its torpor - it is not especially fast-draining, but the tame is long enough to need one or two narcotic top-ups.
Common mistakes
- Letting it eat corpses mid-fight and undoing all your tranq work - clean up bodies first.
- Chasing it on foot across half the map after every dive instead of letting a trap do the work.
- Knocking it out over water or on a cliff edge, where it slides somewhere unreachable.
- Using regular raw meat on a high level - carry prime or kibble; effectiveness matters on your main hauler.
What is the Argentavis good for?
The Argentavis is the workhorse of the entire mid game: big weight pool, weight reduction on heavy resources like metal, obsidian, and crystal, a saddle that doubles as a mobile smithy, and talons that can carry smaller creatures to wherever you need them. Most players fly an Argy daily long after they own faster or stronger birds.
